This peaceful inland village has the best of both worlds – scenic views and a relaxed atmosphere just moments from a bustling coastline. With its higher-octane neighbours dwarfing the local nightlife, you’re in luck if you’re looking for somewhere quieter by comparison. You’ll be really close to Hersonissos, too.
Koutouloufari is a great home base for exploring the region. After a day at the beach it’s wonderful to return to a traditional village. Enjoy real Cretan village lifestyle here, by strolling through the alleys and having a coffee at an old style cafe. There are also many family tavernas offering excellent home-style cooking. Cretan cuisine, based on high quality regional products and long tradition, is fabulous.
Night-times are given over to long, lazy dinners. There are lots of restaurants to choose from, and they all wear a cloak of green, thanks to the vines that wrap their way around doorways, balconies and window shutters. For the most part, the cuisine is Greek, although you’ll find a couple of places serving Italian and Chinese food. You can explore also the next village of Piskopiano which offers plenty of dining choices.
